Men: Steerers of Relationships?

One day, I almost got into this heated argument with one of my male colleagues because he was so sure of himself that men are the ones who control the relationship and that women generally just go with the flow. He said that men are the ones who dictate the flow in a relationship. It's up to them to destroy, end or make the relationship work.

So the thought that women just sit in the sidelines and accept whatever fate throws upon them is a real bother to me. It's like saying that women don't have their own mind! Are we not capable of making decisions for ourselves? Can't we say no when it's really time to put a stop to a relationship? Can't we go after who we want, fight for our love even it might not get reciprocated--although this is quite hard to be honest!

Women are docile beings and I agree to that. We readily submit to our husbands or lovers. We are more loyal to our partners whereas males tend to be polygamous. It has been the nature of women ever since the ancient times. Men seek while women wait and could only hope for the best.

Yet times are changing and we are now dwelling on the 21st century. I've always believed that women are more empowered and that we have what it takes what men can do. If men can afford to play the field, so can women. If men can pursue the love of their lives, so can women. If men take charge in relationships, so can women!

So should we still follow the double-standard sexual morality when it comes to relationships?
