Living in the Post-Covid World
It's been almost 2 years since Covid-19 struck the entire world. Who would have known that a pandemic of this magnitude would befall in our midst.
Covid-19 has changed various aspects of our lives. It has changed the way we work, the way we travel, the way we socialize and even the way we take care of ourselves. Being in lockdown may have given us more time to be with our families but it has also given us this feeling of isolation, of being trapped when our usual interaction to the outside environment has been curtailed.
We all miss how things used to be prior to Covid. The world at that time seemed... so carefree. We could travel wherever and whenever we want. We could go to crowded places, attend gatherings and not be deterred if we happen to brush into anyone's shoulder accidentally. We can go to the airport and book a flight without having to worry about managed isolation. We can just go practically anywhere without having to worry about wearing our facemask on.
Covid has made us realize the things that we usually take for granted. Even the simple act of going to cafes, going to the parks and libraries and even just being able to connect with people face to face has become quite a luxury. Who would also have thought that merely going to the office would be something that you look forward to do? Personally, I miss dressing up and wearing make-up even if it's just for work. It's those little things that you deemed as routine that you never realized matter so much.
Auckland has been in lockdown for more than 2 months and the outlook is not quite promising as we hoped. The number of cases haven't dwindled. At this rate, NZ has to start changing its mindset from zero tolerance of the virus to learning to live with the virus as the rest of the world has ben doing. After all, we can't afford to keep businesses shut down for so long and wreck the economy furthermore. People have also been restless and not being extra cautious like they used to last year. I think Aucklanders have been resigned to their fate and just wanted to move on with their normal routine despite the rising tide of number of cases.
So how do you think the world will live the virus? Covid is not going anywhere and the pandemic is far from being over soon. In a matter of years, Covid may be just like your average flu. Who knows another pandemic may be looming in at the far end of horizon.
