The Perks of Being a Man

Oftentimes I wonder why I was born a woman. If you think about it, there are more perks to being a man as there is compared to a woman.

First, men need not to be burdened with continual hormonal changes in their body. That day of the month as we usually call it that plagues the female population every month of their lives is the biggest contributing factor to erratic mood swings, irritability and extra-sensitivity of women. Don't forget the pre-menstrual syndrome or PMS that usually accompanies it which typically involves nasty abdominal cramps, chest tenderness, acne and bloating.

Second, men need not to be concerned about his figure all the time and can still eat a whole lot more. Let's face it, a man can wolf down a triple burger and not worry about the fat going to his thighs, hips, butt and anywhere else (well, except for the stomach!). They have faster metabolisms and sweat more whereas women have to make frequent trips to the gym and go through a barrage of diets just to maintain their weight and look good.

Third, men don't get pregnant and are not subject to the difficulties and pains of childbirth. Getting pregnant is tough. Having to undergo major changes in your body for 9 months is no joke and if that's not enough the labor pains can be so excruciating. If the baby won't come out and if there are complications along the way, C-section will be done which will scar a woman's beautiful belly for life. Also childbirth places a certain risk on the mother's welfare. I've heard of mothers who developed heart problems and hypertension when they started their pregnancy.

Fourth (this is related to the third item above), men are not affected by biological time clocks. Women who hit their thirties are in constant pressure of settling down and having a child. So you can just imagine how it must be like for single women who are about to hit their forties! Women's ovaries age in time and will make pregnancy difficult in the process. Men, on the other hand, have millions of spermies that keeps regenerating till they die. So in essence, a seventy year-old man can still manage to impregnate a 25 year-old woman. Men need not to worry about settling down at the right time. They can have all the time in the world being the bachelor. When they grew tired and old from the chase and bachelor lifestyle, they can just marry a very young woman and they're good to go!

Lastly (and this is the part that I love the most!), men can get away with flirting and cheating on a lot of women. This is the double standard morality that has prevailed since ancient times which remained a stigma to our society. Women who cheat on their men are automatically ostracized and labeled as whores whereas it's only considered to be a general excuse for the male population. Typically, men reason out that it's just the hormones therefore, women must suck it up and deal with it.

Who says life is fair, right?
