The Hype of SG
I've always wondered how Singapore is like since lots of Filipinos seek work opportunities there. I've heard people rave on how clean it is and how high the salaries are and yet how expensive is the cost of living there.
Finally that curiosity came to a realization when I was sent there last week with my colleagues for a training in Project Server 2010. We stayed for six days (not to mention our in transit to KL on our first day!).
I must agree, yes it is crazy clean in Singapore! I felt like I stepped out into some alternate picture-perfect world where everywhere is so well lit and every sidewalk is litter-free. I hardly even got mud on my jeans when it rained! And there are a mixture of races namely Chinese, Malays, Indians and the others which Filipinos have greatly occupied in number. It's so hard to pinpoint who the locals are anymore!
Singapore boasts in being a clean and safe city and I totally agree. I have actually gone around walking back and forth to Clark Quay and to the hotel all by myself at midnight wearing shorts! Never in a dream will I do that in Manila! However, that's all there is to SG. It's all about progression: clean city living, world-class infrastructure and outstanding architecture. There is no defining culture as it has a combination of various races. I couldn't also see anything different in how they dress up since it's also a tropical country like Philippines.
If you like city life then go for SG but don't expect something different in terms of cultural lifestyle, historical places, etc. I myself wouldn't be too ecstatic to go there again (beside the fact that it is expensive) as one visit is enough to see everything it has to offer.
