Atonement

An empty dark void asserted me once in life
My heart in a turmoil was crippled by strife
I was utterly weak, broken and hope was spent
All my hardships at work to the dust they went.

Consumed by despair, I was suddenly at a loss
Losing control, there's only doom waiting across
Resorted to means of putting shame to an end
The life inside me I couldn't afford to spend.

The burden of my deed weighs heavier than the world
Forces of remorse and guilt assaulted and hurled
Will the scars ever heal so I can still be whole
And success and happiness can still be my goal?

I pray to God for forgiveness and repentance
Owing my energies to goodwill and life of penance
I vow to embrace righteousness in all endeavors
For redemption, faith is my ultimate savior.
