Why Am I a Filipino

Is being a Filipino a sacrifice nor a curse?

A burden we must carry throughout our existence

Why has this country turned for the worse?

A third world nation's growth stunted by its decadence

A democratic country is what we aim to be

But our hopes for development only led to trepidation

For what worth is there for us to be free?

When our country is on the verge of stagnation

Our government never cared for progress

Their greed blinded them to their mounting wealth

This long-standing corruption that we could no longer repress

There is no future for us but taxes and death
