Lay Offs

This has got to be the saddest day in Vestas. Today, about a handful of people got laid off in the Manila office.Who would have known that such an ordeal would befall our midst?

One of the  unlucky people who got laid off happens to be someone I know since he started in Vestas the same day as I did. What was more upsetting was the fact that this person just became a father. I couldn't imagine how he will have the courage to tell his wife that at this very day he just lost his job.

I remembered the feeling of losing a job when I was in Halcrow. That day I felt my world literally crumbled when my boss dropped the bombshell at me. I was in a state of shock at first but when the news started sinking in, I couldn't stop crying. I loved my job then as a Service Desk Manager and losing it felt like losing a treasured gift.

Of course people assume that you'll just get over it in time and move on with your life. It's true. There's nothing you can do about the situation anyway. Companies lay off workers when needed which is a terrible task that people have learned to accept. I had moved on although it wasn't easy and I know it's also going to be the same for these unlucky people. I wasn't able to get the same job as a Service Desk Manager anymore (it's really tough to apply for managerial positions with limited experience) but I have learned a lot of things from my work after Halcrow and I have met a new set of people.

Come to think of it, things do happen for a reason. If I didn't leave Halcrow, more or less I wouldn't have met my good friend, Yam when I worked briefly at SC Innova. I wouldn't also have met Carloe and Ruth as these people have showed me how it was to work hard and really party harder!

I hope all the best to the people who have left Vestas now. It may seem some random tragic event but I know in the end, it'll make them stronger individuals who have managed to overcome a bumpy road in their lives.

And one thing's for sure, don't make your work your life. There are other things in life beside work and it shouldn't be the main reason for your entire existence.
